THE REQUIREMENT

Make responsible disposal easy to join—and possible to measure.

Community institutions needed a practical way for households and congregants to bring textiles, paper, metal, household items and religious materials to a trusted local collection point. The programme had to be simple enough for a family to participate in on a Saturday morning, and structured enough to produce records that could be reviewed and improved.

Every venue presented different operational requirements

Collection Hours

Each institution sets its own collection window

Loading & Vehicle Access

Site layouts vary across masjids and community venues

Manpower Requirements

Staffing is assessed per venue and expected volume

Expected Material Mix

Textiles, paper, metal, household items and religious materials vary by community

Community Needs

Some venues prioritise specific material streams or community engagement

Sensitive-Material Handling

Religious materials require a distinct, respectful process separate from general recyclables

OPERATING MODEL

Four steps from venue to verified record.

01

Assess each venue

Confirm accepted materials, collection hours, loading access, manpower and appropriate handling routes before the collection date.

02

Mobilise the community

Provide each participating institution with a clear collection date and practical guidance for households and congregants.

03

Sort and record

Weigh or count each material stream, separate sensitive materials and capture the result at event level.

04

Route responsibly

Direct suitable materials towards reuse or recovery and handle religious materials through the agreed respectful process.

YEAR-BY-YEAR RESULTS
